Last month, something very special happened at our Southampton nursery, we welcomed a mobile farm into our setting, giving the children a day full of excitement, hands-on learning and unforgettable experiences.
With help from the fantastic team at Millers Ark Farm, our nursery garden was transformed into a mini working farm for the day. The children had the chance to meet and interact with a range of friendly animals, including goats, sheep, donkeys, pigs, chickens, and ducks. For many of our little ones, it was their first time seeing farm animals up close, and their faces lit up with curiosity and joy.
Throughout the visit, our team supported the children in learning how to approach animals calmly and gently. They asked brilliant questions about what the animals eat, where they live, and how they’re cared for and our staff were ready with simple, age-appropriate explanations to encourage their natural curiosity.
The goats quickly became a favourite, hopping around and making the children laugh. The donkeys, with their calm nature, were another highlight, patient and gentle as little hands reached out to give them a stroke. Even the pigs, a bit shy at first, won the children over with their muddy snouts and playful behaviour.
Experiences like this are more than just a fun day, they help children learn empathy, build confidence, and develop a love for nature. We’re so proud to be able to offer opportunities like this, right here in the city.
